Access in Japan was quite interesting. At this train station near Fukuoka, I went up and down steps using this device that had tank type rubber treads. It worked quite well, but the operator and I were both a little nervous about using it – it was a “first time” for both of us.

There are several ways to explore the jungles in Costa Rica. One way is to walk through it, but you need to be careful of poisonous snakes. Sometimes those paths will take you onto bridges as you see here.

The villagers were curious about us. When we first reached the village, our guide told the villagers that my friend Bill and I were paralyzed and needed help getting out of our canoes. They rushed to our aid. At one point, I was afraid they would swamp the canoes.

I think my friend Bill and I are two of the very few people in wheelchairs that sailed on a Chinese Junk in Africa. This ship has an interesting story.

“Namaste!” my friend Bruce said as he greeted me at the airport in Kathmandu. Namaste is a Nepalese expression that translates to, “I salute the god within you.”
