I celebrated my newly acquired diver certification by booking a dive trip in the Dutch Caribbean. I stayed at the wheelchair accessible Flamingo Resort on the island of Bonaire about 50 miles off the coast of Venezuela.

Ice-cream Angel
I don’t know how long I was sitting there, observing all the Easter decorations, all the people wearing their finest Easter clothes, the vendors hawking everything from flowers to ice-cream, the mariachis rounding out the ambiance. My casual observations were interrupted by a little girl, perhaps no more than 6 years of age.

My adventure started as a conversation with my friend Mark, another wheelchair user, with whom I made an expedition to Mount Everest base camp years previous. He was a seasoned traveler and the kind of guy who could always find the bright side in questionable situations.

I thought I was a true adventurer until I met Anthony. He found me through my website, from half way across the world, in Cape Town, South Africa. By the time we had exchanged a few emails, I sensed that Anthony was more than a kindred spirit.

Adventure Stories – On Safari with Jungle Gene
After Jungle Gene visited friends Joni and Anthony in Cape Town, then went bungy jumping and bridge swinging (see previous South Africa story) we flew to Johannesburg, caught the City Bug Mini-bus to drive to Nespruit.
